Fota Cheetah Run sells out in two days...

Due to huge demand, the 800 entries for the 2012 Fota Cheetah Run have sold out in just two days. Entries opened on the 1st of May and hit the 800 mark around 10pm last night. Entries are now closed.

It was hoped that entries would be taken at the Midleton 5 mile race this evening but the 800 limit was reached sooner than expected.

No doubt some will be disappointed but no matter what way the entries are handled, a lot of people won't get in when demand far outstrips the number of places available. Anyone who checked the original post yesterday and checked the 'Entry Status' which was constantly updated throughout the day will have seen that entries were selling out fast.

One unusual feature of last year's race was that there were more women than men in the race. For most races, the field would be roughly 65% men. Last year, 53% of the field were women and this year, that figure has increased to 58%!! The number of non-club runners is also very high with only 22% of the 800 being members of any club.

For the 800 of you who have entered, I'll have a preview on the site before the race. You will also be able to avail of the special offer of the discounted rate for the Soleus GPS watch from the race sponsor John Buckley Sports. You will need to keep your race number from the race and present it when you are buying the watch. This offer closes on the 31st of May. Details in the Race Notice.
