Leon Reid...The new Irish sprint sensation???

While Leon Reid was born in Bath in England, his birth mother was from Belfast and his foster mother is from Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. Even though the 23-year-old is one of the top sprinters in Britain, he has applied for an Irish passport and has declared for Ireland.

At the Great Britain trials in Birmingham earlier this month,  Reid who also runs for Northern Ireland, finished third in the 200m in a new personal best 20.38 seconds - 0.06 inside the mark required for the World Championships. A delay in paperwork however will mean that he is ineligible for that particular competition.

Back in February of this year, he won both the 60m and 200m titles at the Irish Indoor Championships while competing for Menapians AC, a Wexford based club. He also featured in the recent Cork City Sports where he ran 20.38 in the 200m to finish third behind two Americans.

Considering that he is only 23 years old (his birthday is today!) and that he is likely to get faster, we are probably going to hear a lot more about Leon Reid in the future.
