British Postman gives up job to start company organising races

Andy Palmer was up until recently a postman who was also an active runner. After reading an autobiography by Richard Branson, he made the decision to change his career and start a company called White Star Running to organise races.

Instead of organising the usual run of the mill type of road race road race, the events he created were based on "great scenery, a sense of humour, great medals, camaraderie, camping, pre- and post-race food.". Looking at the calendar on the site, they seem to be based on a unique theme which makes the event stand out.

The full story appeared recenly in the Guardian newspaper. Perhaps it's also a sign of the type of events we are likely to see starting up in Ireland?
