10 mile races in May...Castleisland and Fermoy

Following on from the announcement by Bandon AC that they wont be holding a half-marathon this year, here are two 10 milers that are coming up in mid-May. Unfortunately, they're on the same day! A bit like waiting for a bus and two come along together ;o)

An Ríocht AC are organising a 10 mile road race in Castleisland, Co.Kerry on Sunday the 17th of May. This is now running a few years and is well established.

On the same day, there is a new 10 mile race coming up near Fermoy in NE Cork.

Which one people decide to do I would guess will probably depend on which one is closer.  It's a pity that they are on the same day but it just goes to show just how many races are on the calendar at the moment. More details at a later date.

Let's hope for an early start in Fermoy. I'm not a fan of races starting at 1.30 -it takes up 'the whole day'. Obviously there may be Mass to factor in if the course goes past any Churches.....

Hope its an early start. Can get quite warm around that time of year at mid-day for a 10ml. I remember the last John Treacy in Villierstown was around that weekend a few years a go and we nearly died on the course. It had a 1pm start and was never held again....
