Top road races for 2011...

The various polls for the best road races in Cork and Munster are now closed. They ran for the month of January and several hundred people took part in each one.


Best 5k race in Cork.....A total of 389 people voted in this poll. Carrigtwohill cames out tops with 124 or 32% of the vote. The Daniel Kinston 5k in Macroom followed up with 80 votes while Novartis and Doneraile got 59 each.

Best 4 mile race in Cork.....446 people took part and the Ballintotis 4 mile with 158 votes (35%) edged out the Fota race with 141.

Best 5 mile race in Cork.....319 people in this one with the Cork BHAA 5 mile race in Haulbowline winning with 82 votes (26%). The runner up was the Ballycotton 5 with 56.

Best 10k race in Cork.....492 took part and the Dunmanway 10k won with 190 votes (26%). The UCC 10k was in second place with 159.

Best 10 mile race in Munster.....This got the biggest response with 554 votes. The winner was the Great Island 10 mile race in Cobh in aid of the Irish Cancer Society with 203 votes (37%). Not far behind was the Ballycotton 10 with 187.

Best Half-Marathon in Munster.....A big turnout again with 527 people taking part and the vote for the best half went to the Bay Run Half-Marathon in west Cork with 135 votes (26%). The new Charleville Half-Marathon got 104.

Best Long distance race in Munster.....This basically covered anything over the Half-Marathon distance. 288 people voted and the most popular race was the Cork BHAA Cork to Cobh 15 mile race with 132 votes (46%). The Cork City Marathon was the runner up with 95.

Great Poll but find it amazing that over half of the Dunmanway 10k runners (361 took part) voted it the best 10k race!! A must do run for this year!
