Results of the Cork BHAA 'Harvey Norman' 5 Mile Road Race - Wed 17th June 2009
This was the first local road race after the Cork City Marathon on what was a fine summers evening. It looks like there was a huge turnout, perhaps as a result of the influx of Marathon relay runners trying out another race?? Update...There were 460 runners in this race! I know people keep saying the numbers are big but getting 460 runners for what is only just a 5 mile road race is pretty amazing. If you look back a few years or look at other races throughout the country, a race of this type would normally attract about 150 entrants.

The full results are now available HERE

There are loads of photos to look at for this race.

Paudie Birmingham of Mallow AC has a gallery of 55 photos here.

Irene Hartigan has a set of 155 photos here.

Donal O'Donoughue has 113 photos on this gallery.

(By the way, for anyone who missed that programme on Setanta Sports about the Cork City Marathon last Monday night, it can be now seen on the Eircom website. See the earlier post)

John,

I know it's not your fault, but whats the story with the BHAA guys and results? Everyone else has results out the very next day at the worst. These guys are taking nearly a week to put up the Harvey Norman Results.

The delay in the BHAA results is because they have to be generated manually. They have a fairly complex system of giving runners different grades (handicaps) to calculate the team prizes and also need to seperate out the registered from the non-registered runners. This results in a different format from say the average club race which can be handled easily on race software on a PC.

Obviously when they get a huge turnout for a race (eg. 460), it's bound to have an impact when the results are generated manually. Up to relatively recently, a race like this might have got 200 runners and it was a lot less work.

No doubt things could be improved but that's up to the Cork BHAA. It should be noted however that all this work is done on a voluntary basis. While it might be nice to get the results straight away, it's better to get them after 5 days than not at all.

Hi John,

Just wondering would the person like to volunteer to help get the results out the next day, maybe if he/she did then they would see things differently,it's not as easy as one thinks as you had already mentioned and by the way the name is,
